  The Wisteria Lane Syndrome
« on: April 26, 2009, 01:23:32 AM » by Autumn
What causes such deep unhappiness that people will choose to die rather than continue to feel that way?  Most of us immediately think of the death of a spouse or the death of one or all of our children.  Sometimes, we think that losing a job and not being able, or thinking you won't be able, to find a similar position might drive a person to this level of dispair.  Others would guess that being diagnosed with a painful possibly terminal illness would make a normal person decide to check out early. That supposition is partially correct, those sort of events can bring feelings that are unbearably painful and some do chose to end their life because of them.  But, research has brought out a frequent cause for suicide that many of us would not have expected - though, if we think about people we know, we may quickly think of some examples of very unhappy people who are experiencing this less expected trigger for abandonment of their lives.  Rather than try to distill the essence of her excellent piece and perhaps miss out on mentioning something vital, I recommend reading this blog by Lynne McTaggart (of the Intention Experiment).  http://www.theintentionexperiment.com/the-wisteria-lane-syndrome.htm  Do you know anyone in this category?  If so, do you think they can be helped?
