(Latin paganus meaning a "country dweller.") A practitioner of an Earth religion.

pallomancy

Use of a pendulum to answer questions or to measure radiations from a given object or person.

palmistry

Science of interpreting the palms of the hands.

panpsychic

Seeing consciousness everywhere.

pantheism

The belief that God, nature, and the universe are the same.

para

Prefix meaning "beyond, above, far, distant, amiss, aside"; often implying alteration or modification; parallel to, but not the same.

paradigm

1. Set of deep concepts on the nature of reality that shapes language, thought, perceptions, and system structures. 2. Unconscious dogmas and assumptions which make ordinary scientific practice possible.

paradigm shift

Spiritual or mental axis-shift; change in perception or world view such as the Copernican, Darwinian, Freudian, or New Age revolution.

parakinesis

Physical psychic phenomenon in which there is no normal explanation for movement manifested.

parallel

Distance of planets from the celestial equator.

parallel lives

Simultaneous multiple incarnation by same over-soul.

paranormal

Faculties and phenomena beyond normally understood causal factors.

paraphysics

The study of laws governing psychic phenomena.

parapsychology

Science of measuring and investigating paranormal phenonema and behavior.

Parsee, or Parsi

A member of the Zoroastrian sect in India, descended from Persians.

pass

Movement of a healing practitioner's hands downward or upward in proximity to the patient's body intended to permit radiation forces to extend through the practitioner to the subject.

past-life regression

Technique used to bring about an altered state of consciousness to guide us to review, study, and heal through recalling or re-experiencing past happenings in order to free us from present obstacles to growth and wholeness.

past-life therapy

Method of searching for the roots of a person's current situations in previous lifetimes.

path, the

A way, a walk, or journey, usually depicting the spiritual story of our advancement.

patriarchal

1. Rule of a senior male over an extended family or tribe. 2. Male dominated political state characterized by a high degree of occupational specialization, commerce, social stratification, and warfare.

patterning

Outward random results of psychic events providing mankind with clues that the material plane is orderly and patterned. For example, the fall of lots, dowsing rod pull, pendulum swing, lines on hands, I Ching, irridology, biorhythm charts, astrology and numerology.

patterns

The style of the lines made on the EEG printouts during biofeedback work, caused from the many levels of brain wave consciousness with variations and similarities so as to categorize a scale of these patters for the future.

pendulum

Dowsing and radionics instrument consisting of a bob suspended by a short cord held in the fingers.

pentacle

Any talisman used for psychic operations that hangs.

Pentacles

Tarot suit symbolic of fortune and enterprise.

pentagram

Five-pointed star.

percipient

One who can be aware of, intercept and intelligibly perceive and receive telepathic or psychic impressions.

perciever

The direct receiver of telepathically or supernormally transmitted impressions either intended for him or for transmission through him to another person.

phantom leaf effect

Removal of a portion of a plant leaf prior to photographing the whole of the corona by Kirlian photography.

phenomenology

Study of psychism by contemporary philosophy including awareness in experience and a construction as it appears in the mind along with extraordinary things and their relation to the mind.

phenomenon -na or -nons

A happening that appears by physical law. Often attributed to the supernormal as though caused by impulse of astral origin.

philology

The study of names and their vibratory rate.

philter

Magic love potion.

phobia

Strong, abnormal, unreasonable fear of something.

phone voyance

Clairvoyance or clairsentiance experienced by a sensitive talking on a voice transmitter, as a telephone.

photo-medium

A spirit photographer having mediumistic abilities to serve him in the art of psychic photography.

phrenology

The science of divining the skull and head so as to tell one's individuality and personality.

physical plane

The 1st plane of 3 dimensional matter, created by the soul-mind as a means for it to express itself and matter held together by thought energy both conscious and subconscious activity.

physical mediumship

Possession of psychic power to demonstrate ability in supporting apport, the movement of physical objects, or materializations, and other phenomena of physical types. Known also as "ectoplasmic mediumship".

physical psychic phenomenon

Physical type manifestations are objective and usually can be witnessed by those present through the natural senses. Examples include rappings, table tilting, and materialization though the latter does not always register with everyone present.

physical vehicle

The body. The physical body is vehicle for less tangible elements of human lifesoul, spirit, mind, intellect. The spirit or astral body can separate from and return to the physical body with only the silver cord maintaining a contact between the two bodies.

physiognomy

The ancient art of judging character and disposition from the features of the face or the form and lineaments of the body.

pictograph

Various types of pictures used as symbols by etheric world entities to bring psychic information during automatic writing.

picture

Mind image based on a belief system; a barrier.

pingala

(Sanskrit) Subtle nerve channel on the right side of the spine; channel used for directing kundalini energy and chakra work.

A cycle of time wherein the Earth received the influence of the constellation Pisces, acording to astronomy and astrology.

Pituitary gland

Believed to be the endocrine gland into which the energy of the crown center flows; in effect, the point of contact for the soul wherein it is anchored into the physical, mechanical form.

Planetary Logos

pluralism

In metaphysical view, the phenomena of reality (including life) must have multiple explanation. For example, the body is physical matter, the soul or spirit is non-material, the spirit body is composed of matter not yet fully analyzed.

Pluto

This planet is the indicator of rejuvenation and power. Its location becomes a place of challenge for our use of will and personal power. The newest planet, Pluto often indicates where we could be secretive or less comfortable being direct about matters. Often seen as the planet of the underworld or subconscious. Ruler of Scorpio, it is considered Ray 1 in nature.

Psi-mediated instrumental response; synchronistic phenomenon.

point-of-focus

Any one thing that will hold the attention of an individual over a period of time.

polarity

The positive or negative state in which a system or an entity reacts to a magnetic or electrical field.

polarity balancing (Polarity therapy)

Wholistic system that balances the life energy through releasing blocks in the physical body.

polysensory incantation

To use the same term over and over again until it takes form and stabilizes in the mind.

portent

The psychic indication that something is about to happen.

position

Planet's place in the horoscope.

positive pole

Carrier of the incoming vibrations of psychic manifestations or energy. Sensitives operating in groups may create positive and negative poles. The positive carries the major burden of intake.

positive thought

A thought instigated by a person that is in accord with his or her good judgment, cultural values, ethical standards, self-worth or personal value system and is therefore felt to be correct for himself.

possession

The taking control of the physical body of a person by a spirit entity. It is assumed the spirit element of the person is dispossessed or in temporary abandonment. There can be distinctive changes in the appearance and personal traits of a person, corresponding to traits of the possessing discarnate.

postcognition

Memory or flashes usually from a past-life.

poultice

Soft mass of fresh vegetable matter, usually heated, spread on cloth, and used in natural healing.

power

Realm of higher consciousness; active, impersonal force interacting with human existence.

power object

Object with the ability to call in spirit forces.

power point (Psychic vortex)

Spot or place along an Earth meridian with a capacity to amplify and transform energy, especially where two paths interconnect.

practitioner

One who has completed foundation work and demonstrated integrity, earning the endorsement of the metaphysical/spiritual community.

prana

(Sanskrit) Life energy.

prayer

The deliberate attempt to center ourselves in conversations with God or deity of choice; the concentration of heart and mind that brings that communion.

prayer arrow

Ceremonial arrow in Native American communities, Shinto, and other traditions that conveys messages or energy between Heaven and Earth.

prayer position

Meditation with the thumbs on the sternum, finger tips touching lightly.

prayer wheel

A spiritual tool of the Buddhist tradition wherein a container with many prayers in it is spun while in a prayerful state of mind, activating the prayers within for a time and for the intention of the one praying.

precognition

Psychic knowledge of future events.

predestination

A dogma that denies free will, believing all experiences are foreordained by God with little or no chance of change.

prediction

A statement of what will happen based upon known, real behavior forms and the estimate of the possibilities.

prelucid dream

Dream in which the subject debates whether he or she is dreaming; false awakening.

premonition

Older term for "precognition". Current usage suggests a feeling of foreboding or presentiment or sensing of something to occur in the future.

present

The whole spiral of life, without beginning and end.

Great circle that crosses the meridian of the birth place at right angles.

psionics

1. The study of investigation of psi or the paranormal. 2. Russian term for radionics.

psyche

1. Soul, spirit, mind. 2. Mental or psychological structure of the personality.

psychic

1. Realm of the paranormal, occult, or astral. 2. A person who is sensitive or responsive to etheric, spirit, or other non-physical powers or manifestation.

psychical

1. Something other than known physical process. 2. Sensitivity to the powers beyond the known physical laws. 3. From, or of, the mind of psyche, as differentiated from the substance of body.

psychic artist

A sensitive who serves spirit forces as the mechanism for creating pictures or other representations.

psychic attack

The transference of negative energy between two persons through the use of telepathic skills.

psychic barrier

Tangible, forceful, protective vibrations around an individual or area.

psychic block

A wall made in one's auric atmosphere preventing a psychic from tuning into that person.

psychic cantilever

An extension of ectoplasm extruding from the medium to support the levitation of inanimate objects.

psychic communication

Transmission of message between spirit operator and medium.

psychic condensation

A vapor-like tenuous body housing the spirit body. Some refer to ectoplasm as "condensation."

psychic cord

The "silver cord" is the currently most used term for the indefinite elastic or thread-like connection extending from the physical body to the astral or psychic body during OBE's.

psychic counseling

To give a private reading on a one-to-one basis pertaining to the personal information desired by the client.

psychic development / unfoldment

The process of activating one's psychic ability.

psychic experience

The reality of a supernormal phenomenon, either of spontaneous or meditative type. The event must have a personality involved, there must be no reasonable explanation in terms of orthodox science and it must be non-attributable to divinity.

psychic energy

An intelligent, powerful, invisible force formed by the friction of the blood cells running back and forth throughout the veins and arteries filling the body with electricity, capable of being controlled and directed by the human mind.

psychic force

An energy emanating from, or about, a medium, a sensitive, or any person possible in lesser amounts. This force may demonstrate itself in multiple ways as in the radiating field known as "aura" in the powering of ESP and PK.

psychic healing

Removing or adjusting abnormal conditions of the physical organisms. The power for the curing originates from a high ethereal source and is delivered through the cooperating resources of a medium and spirit helpers.

psychic science

The composite of all forces, powers and facts relating to, demonstrating or controlling the existence and/or activities of spirit entities.

psychic surgery

Healing or removal of diseased tissue without instruments.

psychic vampire

One whose body chemistry is capable of absorbing psychic energy from another person, deliberately or unknowingly.

psychoenergetics

Interaction of consciousness, matter and energy.

psychograph

Paranormal appearance on photographic material.

psychography

Direct or automatic writing.

psychometric sense

The telepathic sensing and ESP exercised in the ability of a sensitive to receive impression from the radiations of inanimate objects.

psychometry

"Measure of the soul", faculty of obtaining paranormal information from touching or holding an object.

psychophysical

The area of interaction where the mechanics of the psychic and physical meet in function; subject-object interaction as that involving thought and the brain, or ESP communication and conscious mind.

psychosynthesis

A counseling technique developed by Roberto Assagioli to assist spiritual growth through acknowledging the soul and developing will and wisdom.

Pure Land Buddhism

Mahayana school originating in China teaching faith in Amitabha Buddha, invoking his name to win rebirth in his Pure Land.

Purna Yoga

Integral yoga initiated by Sri Aurobindo.

pushing hands

T'ai Chi exercises performed by two partners.

pyramid

A five-sided geometric shape that creates an energy field within itself.

pyramid energy

Life energy accumulated or conducted within any pyramidal shaped construction aligned square along a North-South axis; natural preservative energy radiated at the point or base of the pyramid.

pyramidology

Science or study of pyramids, especially their preservative qualities or historic use as receptacles of ancient wisdom.

Pythagoras

Greek philosopher from Samos noted for his doctrine of the Harmony of the Spheres and teaching that all is number. (-6th century)
