yang

Sunny side of the mountain, heaven's active principle and one of the two fundamental energies of the universe; the relative tendency of centripetal, contraction, density, heat, light, strength, and other qualities whose energy tends to go down and inward.

yesod

This ninth sephirah on the kabbalistic Tree of Life equates with the term "foundation" and is understood as that which is held in the unconscious depths of mind.

yin

"Shady side of the mountain", earth's receptive or yielding principle and one of the two fundamental energies of the universe; the relative tendency of centrifugal, expansion, growth, diffusion, cold, darkness, and other qualities whose energy tends to go up and outward.

yin and yang

The law of universal change; the forces and tendencies that differentiate from One Infinity and manifest as centripetal and centrifugal energy, space and time and are the origin of all relative worlds.

yoga

(Sanskrit) "Yoke" 1. Union of self with the absolute or divine. 2. Methods or discipline employed to obtain such union. 3. Meditative practices originating in pre-Aryan India used by Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and some Moslems and Christians. 4. One of the orthodox schools of Hindu philosophy.

Born India, 1893, died 1952. Great spiritual teacher of the Kriya Yoga lineage.

(Sanskrit) Male practitioner of yoga.

yogini

(Sanskrit) Female practitioner of yoga.
